ExxonMobil Rewards+

ExxonMobil Rewards+ is a free loyalty program designed to turn routine fuel purchases into accumulated savings at one of the world's largest fuel brands. The program operates at both Exxon and Mobil branded stations across the United States, with widespread presence in most states. Unlike some fuel programs that focus on a single benefit like a flat discount, ExxonMobil designed Rewards+ as a points-based system that encourages repeat visits and purchases of higher-margin products, and crucially, it allows members to combine their rewards with other company programs to achieve significantly higher total savings.

Enrollment is free and requires minimal effort. You create an account at the ExxonMobil Rewards+ website, provide basic information, and you're immediately eligible to start earning. No credit check, no membership fee, and no commitment. Once enrolled, you link your app or physical card to the pump, and points start accumulating on every fuel purchase. The company also offers a substantial sign-up bonus for new app users: $5 in points awarded after your first two fill-ups using the mobile app. This is worth mentioning because $10 upfront is meaningful, that's equivalent to 300 points, or roughly 30 gallons worth of regular fuel purchases at the program's standard earning rate.

The base earning structure is tiered by fuel grade. Regular and mid-grade gasoline earn 3 cents per gallon in points value. Premium Supreme+ fuel earns 6 cents per gallon. In the convenience store, you earn 2 cents for every dollar spent on snacks, drinks, car washes, oil, and other in-store merchandise. Points are redeemable at a fixed rate: 100 points equal $1 in savings. This means 3 cents per gallon on regular fuel translates to earning roughly $0.03 per gallon as points, and 6 cents per gallon on premium translates to $0.06 per gallon, a meaningful incentive to try premium fuel if your vehicle can accommodate it.

The sophisticated part of ExxonMobil Rewards+ emerges when you layer other company programs on top. The Direct Debit+ account is a separate enrollment that gives you automatic savings of $0.10 to $0.12 per gallon just for linking a bank account and letting ExxonMobil charge it directly. That alone gets you close to $0.15 per gallon savings without touching points. If you're also an AARP member, ExxonMobil adds an additional 1 cent per gallon savings for qualified members who enroll their rewards account. Beyond that, if you purchase at least 100 gallons of Supreme+ premium fuel in a calendar month, you earn Frequent Filler status, which adds an extra 1 to 2 cents per gallon in rewards. Stack all of these together, Rewards+ points, Direct Debit+ savings, AARP membership bonus, and Frequent Filler status, and a driver can reach up to 20 cents per gallon in total value.

To be clear, hitting the 20-cent threshold requires meeting several conditions: you need to have Direct Debit+ activated, qualify for AARP membership, purchase premium fuel exclusively, and hit 100+ gallons per month. Most casual drivers won't reach that ceiling. But a driver who switches to premium fuel, links their bank account, and qualifies for AARP can realistically reach 14 to 16 cents per gallon without much extra effort. Even without those overlaps, the base Rewards+ program alone provides 3 to 6 cents per gallon value, which is a respectable return for a no-cost program.

One constraint to understand: points expire after one year of inactivity. If you earn points and don't use them within 12 months, they disappear. For most drivers who fuel up at least monthly, this is not a practical concern, you're spending your points regularly before expiration kicks in. But if you take a long road trip and accumulate a large balance, then don't visit an Exxon or Mobil station for a year, those points vanish. The company considers this a way to keep its finances predictable; customers view it as a deadline to use their earnings or lose them.

Enrollment in bonus offers is simultaneous but separate programs. If you sign up for Rewards+, you also have the option to apply for Direct Debit+ (linking your bank account for automatic payment), enroll in AARP benefits if you're a member, or track your fuel purchases toward Frequent Filler status. The company explicitly states that new-member sign-up bonuses cannot be combined with other promotions, meaning if there's a new-member bonus running when you join, you can't stack it with a separate promotional offer from that same month. However, once you move past the new-member window, the Frequent Filler and other ongoing benefits stack freely with your base Rewards+ earnings.

The mobile app is the primary way most members interact with the program. It shows your point balance in real time, lets you find nearby Exxon and Mobil stations with integrated mapping, and displays your purchase history. The app also surfaces targeted offers for members, allowing ExxonMobil to push personalized discounts based on your purchase patterns, for instance, bonus points on premium fuel if your car typically uses it. This personalization feels like the company is competing for your loyalty, not just mechanically crediting points.

Compared to competitor programs, ExxonMobil Rewards+ occupies a middle position. It's less generous than some all-brand gas apps like Upside, which lets you apply offers from any station regardless of brand. But it's more generous than bare-bones station programs because of the stacking potential. The key differentiator is the stackability: most single-brand programs offer one discount or earning rate, whereas ExxonMobil created a modular system where multiple company benefits layer on top of each other. That architecture appeals to drivers who are already Exxon or Mobil customers and want to maximize their value by going deeper into the company's ecosystem.

One last consideration: the program is tied exclusively to Exxon and Mobil branded stations. If your local gas station flies neither brand, the program provides zero benefit until you travel to a region with better coverage. In densely populated areas and along major highways, Exxon and Mobil stations are common. In rural areas or states with strong regional gas chains, you may encounter fewer of both brands. For drivers whose regular fill-up route includes Exxon or Mobil pumps, the program is worth joining and activating today. The sign-up bonus, combined with the base earning rate and the stacking potential for Direct Debit+ or AARP members, makes it a strong choice within the branded fuel program category.
